On the garden side the house opens onto some500 m² or so, densely planted and facing south-east (the street façade facing north-west). It includes a terrace of about 60 m² and it attracts a fine variety of birds: blackbirds, robins, warblers, tits, chaffinches, greenfinches, goldfinches, wrens, pipits…
The whole — house, garden and outbuilding — is a single contiguous property. In the middle of the garden stands an old well; at the far end, a registered plot with building potential.
At the heart of the garden a grassed path opens between the beds, lined witholive trees, a white roses and a palm. The dense planting and the morning sun make a genuinely cool corner, made for strolling.
Backing onto a evergreen hedge that keeps the garden green all year, this shaded corner sets off a shrub with silvery foliage, bright against the surrounding greenery. It opens onto a corner of the terrace, behind the house: a quiet nook, sheltered from view.
Seen from the first floor, the garden reveals its variety of planting: dwarf palms, olive trees, yucca and flower beds rise in tiers towards the trees at the back. A distinctly Mediterranean feel that stays green all year and keeps the place private.
By the façade, a generous bed of St John’s wort with its yellow flowers answers the silvery tones of the lamb’s ear and lavender. A flowering foreground that sets off the view from the living rooms.
Taken at different times of day and from various angles, these photos give a sense of the overall atmosphere: a garden that is densely planted and full of flowers, largely Mediterranean in character, where olive trees, palms and evergreen shrubs mingle with colourful beds. Thesouth-east aspect and the density of the planting give light, shade and a sense of privacy all year round.
The density of the planting attracts a fine variety of birds. By way of illustration, here is the result of a listening session made from the garden using a birdsong identification app: within a few minutes, several species were recognised.
Species identified during that session: Common blackbird, House sparrow, European goldfinch, Eurasian collared dove, Black redstart, Common house martin, Eurasian blue tit and Eurasian blackcap.
